This is a
stunning double sides amulet made of Excelsior pewter - each side is unique. This
design carries a combination of various symbols all associated with the Norse All Father
God, Odin.
On one
side in the center of the back is the "Valknut", three interlocking triangles
which translates as the "Knot of the Fallen". To bear this mark signified that
the wearer had dedicated their life to the service of Odin and upon death would be carried
by his servants (the Valkyries, in the form of ravens) to Valhalla(or Heaven) to feast
until Ragnarok [the end of time].
Odin is
not a God of War but a God of Inspiration, Magic, Consciousness and the Arts. Flaking the
Valknut (in the center) are Odin's 2 Ravens Hugin (thought) and Munin (memory). They
represent the fusion of the left and right hemispheres of the brain that creates a direct
energetic current through the chakras and accessing higher consciousness - or the Hall of
the Gods. The runes in the top border are Man and Yr, Life and Death. In the
center is the Tyr (or warriors rune). This imparts Eternal life through
reincarnation and eliminates the fear of death. The runes along the bottom border
spell Valhal (old Norse) meaning the hall of the slain (Nordic Heaven). The run at
the apex of the pyramid is "Odal" that signifies the Magical enclosure which
channels and contains the protective energies of the wearer.
"Odhroerir"
is the symbol on the center of the opposite side. It translates as the poetic mead
of inspiration, which according to legend, Odin won back for the Gods after a giant
had taken it. The symbol shows 3 interlocking drinking horns, Odhroerir, Bodh and
Son, the names of the 3 vessels in which this mead was stored. Odin gulped down the
mead in 3 gulps before turning himself into an eagle and flying back to the Asgard - while
being perused by the very angry giant. It is said that some drops were spilled on
the ground during this flight of escape, and that anyone can drink of it and possess
Inspired Consciousness. "Odhroerie" is spelled in runes along the bottom
border. The top contains Os and Gibor runes, which when combined mean the Gift of
Consciousness, the Cosmic breath and the Power of Creativity through word and song.
The Gar Rune in the center is symbolic of Gungnir (Odin's spear) thought to be a microcosm
of the Cosmic Axis, or World Tree, representing the honor bound oath and righteousness.
This
pendant brings a reopening of the spiritual life urging inspiration to achieve victory
over the transient material things and the ego, bringing courage, wholeness, and the
divine energies of Odin, leading one to bond with the energy in their heart, not in the
'out there'. We are droplets of god, and an essential part of everything. May these runes
empower and protect the wearer to this path.
