The Greenman is our protector of Nature and the over all spirit of the Environment.  Since his appearance in the early Celtic and Roman art, this has been the symbol of the cycle of life and death.  It is a symbol of protection and homage to the beauty of creation.  His figure became the focus of May Day celebrations where leaf clad men chased lovely maidens off into the greenery.

The Greenman contains an earthy knowledge that is ancient as well as powerful.  He helps to teach and remind us of our responsibilities of the synergy between man and the earth.
