Serpentine received its name because of it's
resemblance to some types of snake's skin. Because of this, this gem is considered a

sacred to ancient snake goddesses like the Egyptian goddess Uadjet who was pictured as a
winged crowned cobra - spitting poison at any who would do the pharaoh harm. Serpentine was used in ancient Rome as a protection amulet and in the Middle Ages this stone was used for bowls containing medicine as it increased the contents healing powers and longevity.
