| Apache Tears has a sad but moving story behind how it
got its name. During an incident in Arizona, U.S.A., soldiers ambushed a group of
Apache Indians. Many of the people were killed and many leapt over a cliff - rather
than be taken prisoner. The women of the tribe wept at
the base of the cliff and their tears were embedded in the obsidian. Hence its name.
Obsidian has long been used for arrowheads and as a sign of
protection.
In Ancient Egypt, Sehmet (the lion goddess) used seven arrows made
of Obsidian for protection against wrongdoers.
Polished Obsidian was used by the Mayans for magic mirrors.
Perhaps this is where Obsidian earned the name "Wizard Stone".
Not only is it a wonderful protection stone, it is a grounding
element that absorbs negative energy. It helps to dampen inner anger and the
frustration that can occur from others at times.
It is a good stone for stress relief as well as to comfort grief.
Apache Tear also helps to protect our aura.
